Hi, I am applying to advanced programs that begin PGY2. Does that mean that I need to have separate LORs for my transitional internship year? Or can I use the same letters? Thanks so much.

Not really. If you have a particular person who might write a great letter but would not be suited for your advanced program, you might chose to use it, but most people that applied last year just used their advanced program letters with success.

You do not need to have separate ones.

However, it does help to have one of your letters be from internal medicine if applying for internal medicine prelims, and it does help to have one of your letters be from surgery if applying for surgery prelims. It is not required, though (I didn't have it).
