I'm just curious, has anyone else started having serious sleeping problems and occasional insomnia (particularly around exams) since starting dental school? Anyone see a professional for help via an Rx?

Before I started dental school, it would take me about an hour to fall asleep. Now, I'm asleep in less than 10 minutes of going to bed. It's great! ha

I didn't have so much trouble falling asleep while in school, but I would wake up easily. It was hard to sleep through the night. My mind was always on things I needed to get done the next day or that week. The better I got at managing my time and finding ways to relieve stress, the better it got. Now that I'm done with school, I sleep like a baby.

I didn't really have any trouble falling asleep in 1st and 2nd year. Usually because I was studying until late so I was exhausted by the time I went to bed. 😛 Though now in 3rd year, I'm up fairly frequently trying to remember things that I'll have to do with patients the next day.

5 mg ambien w/ 1 mg melatonin has worked wonders for me...

Ambien might be overdoing it for most, no need for Rx.

Melatonin is amazing, I take it almost every night, 1 mg normally, but 3 mg if I need it. If that doesn't work, combine it with Benadryl pills and Valerian root pills.

Trouble getting to sleep, no. Trouble finding time to sleep, yes.

Well put fellow USU SDNer. On most days I'd be plenty tired and would fall asleep within minutes. I only had issues on days with a high stress/low exercise combination. I'd recommend maybe doing a quick run or reading on an exercise bike or something like that.
