TGH is going crazy, man! We are officially on divert until the hurricane comes, only stroke alerts, trauma alerts, MIs, and codes can come in via EMS for the next 4 days. I'm in the MICU and we're trying to get all our people out (okay all you DKAers who took cocaine, get outta my unit!). Shoudl be interesting... all the residents are basically asked to spend Monday night at the hospital (since the bridge to Davis Islands will be closed).

Good times!

Heh, I got out just in time. I live there for more than two years, and they keep telling me that their due for a big one soon. I scoff at them. I think they're silly and alarmist.

I leave. Within 10 months, Florida gets hit by two (and soon to be three?) Category 3+ hurricanes. They should pay me millions to stay there!

Wow... I just checked the forecast. Ivan is now projected to run straight up the Florida Gulf coast. Ouch. Be safe. Eat lots of Twinkies. And bring a canoe or something, just in case.

Looking at the projected path, where exactly are they planning to evacuate all these patients to? Are the hospitals on the Atlantic coast recovered enough yet to take them? You can't exactly transfer yours to Bayfront or probably even Jacksonville, since that looks like it's gonna get hit too.

I do know that TGH is on divert, and I think St. Joe's is and I would be Bayfront and Morton Plant as well. I think the EOC wants the smaller hospitals to take the "crap" from EMS and what-not so the big hospitals can handle any transfers or mass casualty stuff.

All the residents got pages from the hospital administration saying "We woudl appreciate any early, but appropriate, discharges, our house is full!" Actually there are still about ~700 patients in the hospital, with a total bed count ~800.

I'll actually be out of town, I fly up to DC, and will be back Monday evening. It will be interesting to see if my flight actually makes it back to Tampa or if TPA will close before.

Wow, rerouting all the crap to other hospitals. That sounds like a dream... until the winds get up to 155 mph. Then it sounds like a nightmare. Apparently Ivan has just upgraded to Category 5 shortly before hitting Jamaica full force, mon.
