Does anyone know how late is too late to apply for a neuro residency via sfmatch? I know the TARGET DATE is Aug 29, and most programs have their own deadlines, but at what point should one reconsider?

Call the programs that you are interested in and find out when the deadlines are. University of Chicago had an October 1, 2001 deadline. Penn has a December 1, 2001 deadline. All other programs fall somewhere in between. Keep in mind that all programs receive many apps but will interview only a handful. Many programs have already selected and scheduled their potential candidates to interview.
Also remember that it takes the SFMatch people around 2-3 weeks to compile your stuff and send it out to the various programs. And, at this point most of us applicants have already interviewed at ~2-3 programs.
That said, Neurology is a relatively easy match. The top programs will be as competitve as in any other field. But after that, it's easy pickings.
My suggestion. Call the programs and ask.
