What do you need to do to shadow a doctor?

A willing shadowee is about it. Finding one is the difficult part, try calling doctors in your area, or better yet ones you know through personal contacts.

tdd340 is right. Both doctors I've talked into agreeing to let me shadow I knew personally. It was really scary for me to try and use my "contacts" but they were both incredibly nice about it.

Choose an area that you're interested, then look up 5 physicians in your area. Write them each a letter describing your interest and ask to shadow. I did this and got one reply out of 5.

Call doctors you have personal contact with like a doctor you've seen as a patient, a family friend, etc. Some doctors are a little reluctant to let people shadow them because of HIPPA but there are still some nice doctors out there who can teach you a lot. I loved my shadowing experiences!
