Do medical schools permit college or high school students to shadow one of thier medical students for a day or two? Follow them to classes, labs etc

My med school doesn't seem to mind it. There are so many students in the classes, it doesn't matter if an occasional undergrad 'shadows' a med student. We've had several undergrads 'shadow' over the past few months. In fact, I just invited an undergrad I met today to come and sit in on classes sometime with me. Labs are a different story though, especially gross and neuro anatomy.

I wouldn't recommend shadowing to a high school student, however. If an individual doesn't understand the material it would be extremely boring. Just my two cents.......

That's a great racket!!!

If I get accepted to medical shchool, I'll definitely let undergrads shadow. Their duties will include but is not limited to:
(a) baking cookies, cakes, pies, etc. etc.
(b) cooking spaghetti (not the Ramen stuff---the time consuming Ronzoni stuff)
(c) doing laundry
(d) taking notes in class while I head to the beach
(e) preparing transcripts of taped lectures
(f) occassional jester duties (standing on head, streaking across campus etc. etc.)
(g) downloading my desired MP3s over dial-up, that's right no DSL!!!

Wow that sounds awesome.

Who wants to shadow me? I'm in Buffalo.

I wouldn't bother if you are still in high school -- it's a possible waste of everyone's time until you get closer. If you are in college, it's likely not up to the med school so much as the student, with the exception of anatomy labs. I'm sure many students would be happy to let you shadow if, as the prior poster suggested, you bring food. Free food is the major currency in med school, much like cigarettes are in prison. 🙂
Bear in mind though that a lot of students skip many lectures and just self study from home or at the library, so if they give you a taste of what real med school is like for them, you may end up just sitting next to someone who spends half the day in his PJs reading.
You'd be better off just asking the school to let you sit in on a first year lecture (if you are in college).
