Hey guys,

I'm sure this type of thing has been done to death, but I haven't found anything about what exactly I am wondering. I e-mailed a physician to shadow him and he replied and said to e-mail his secretary about setting up a time. Should I send him a thank you e-mail? I will definitely leave a thank you note after the experience, but I don't want to seem rude by not thanking him now, but also don't want to be annoying. Sigh.

Let me know what you think!

Yes, especially if you plan on having this physician write you a LOR.

I think he'll laugh at you for being such a kiss-ass if you send said thank you e-mail. Definitely leave him a thank you note after you've completed shadowing.

Uh I'll have to disagree with flatearth. 😱 Surprising, I know

I don't think you need to thank the doctor PRIOR to shadowing. Thank him/her afterward if you would like to

Ok, cool. I won't send him one now and will leave a thank you note afterwards. I don't think I'll be asking him for an LOR since it's a short term thing and I'm not even applying until next year.

Cool, enjoy shadowing.
