Hello guys,

I am a non-traditional applicant (meaning I am a naturalized citizen and served in the Army in between my undergraduate years), and I just graduated from the University of Alabama and got commissioned as 2nd Lt. in the Army.

So far I have applied to 10 schools (UCLA, UCSF, Harvard, Columbia, UPENN, NYU, BU, UAB, UCONN, and USC) but my friends have been telling me that I should apply to more safety schools. Can you please look at my stats and let me know whether I should?

- GPA: oGPA: 3.91(wo +/-) and 3.84 (with +/-), sGPA 3.91and 3.85, and bcpbGPA 3.88 and 3.80.
I thought my GPA would be higher with +/- because I have a lot of A+'s, but since AADSAS doesn't count for A+ anymore, I have much lower GPA with +/-...

- I also have an upward trend for my GPA 3.67 -> 3.86 -> 3.91 -> 3.98.

- DAT: AA22 TS24 RC17 QR22 PAT 23.

- Shadowing Hours: I served as a dental specialist in the Army for 2 years, so I have a plenty of clinical experience or shadowing hours (+2000).

- Awards: won many Army competitions and awards in the Army

- Work experience: Resident Advisor (2012-2013) and the US Army Active Duty (2013- current)

-Extracurricular: Undergraduate Research, Army ROTC (VP), Club Soccer, America's Toothfairy, Korean student association (VP), Conversation Facilitator, International Peer Advisory Council, etc.

- LOR: 2 from science professors and 3 from dentists (ortho, pediatric, and general). Should be really solid.

If I should, where else should I apply? I am primarily looking at West Coast and North Eastern schools.

Thanks!!

I think you are fine,
your stats are pretty good and above average, so there is no need to apply to more schools.
However, if money was not a problem, then it won't hurt to apply to more schools.

What's your state of residence?

I would apply to maybe 1-2 additional schools. You have great stats but you're also mostly applying to highly competitive schools, some of which may have a problem with the RC score of 17 (UCLA, UCSF, Harvard, Columbia, UPENN, and specifically UCONN for non-northeastern applicants are all pretty difficult to get into). Your other 4 schools are pretty safe bets but 1-2 more OOS friendly schools to round it out is a great idea.

Thank you soooo much for your quick reply. Can you recommend few schools?

And I believe my residency is Alabama since I am stationed here.

Hm I would see if schools want 3 lor from professors and not just 2. If you already checked, then ignore me.

I have a committee letter so that should cover pretty much all the schools, but thanks!
