Hi doctors,

I am an M1 at VCU and I hope to go into Emergency Medicine so I was thinking you all might be the ones to ask. I was shown a copy of a report at my school about mistreatment on the clinical rotations and it had a lot of awful stories in it with stats showing like 80% of VCU med students get mistreated. I am not sure what to make of it. Is that something that happens everywhere?

The stories included things like "a resident stated she hated brown people like me," "I was grabbed inappropriately by a PGY2," "the attending played slap-ass with us in the elevator," "a resident told me VCU students get a pretty ****ty education," and "an attending made me hug an NP who was scrubbed into surgery."

Is that kind of stuff normal as an M3? I don't know because I am not there yet, but I wonder what I should do to be ready for it. I don't want to do poorly as an M3 because of how people treat me.
