I have a part 1 with average of 90.
I also have a 280 in Toefl and a 2.6 GPA. And some excellent recommendations.
I applied to all school on East coast on early DEC ,I got 2 interviews with BOSTON and UPENN.
NYU rejected me even without an interview. the same with others.
BOSTON and UPENN rejected me too.
Anyone has any suggestion ?
I cant improve my GPA ( It is what it is) , Do you think Its wise to redo part 1 ?
I feel very depressed at this point.
NYU interviewed and accepted applicants with much lower scores.
I called and asked , but they didnt give me any reason.
What should I do ?
What would you do if you were me ?
Redo part 1 ?
Doing part 2 ? ( most schools dont even look at it)
Do GRE and go for a MS ?
or DAT and restart the whole dental school from begining ?
PLZ help

hey prinzmetal..
wow!u have such an amazing score.I see no reason for u to repeat the part1.u should just start reparing for ur part2.thats really unfortunate of u get rejected at diff. schools.that is quite surprising too.
regarding ur GPA I guess its a lil less that wat most schools expect.I assume u have got ur evaluation done from ECE.so u can get the evaluation done from WES too.they generally give u a decently high GPA.Guess there is no harm trying for WES when everything else is so good.
the website for it is
www.wes.org
if u need more help feel free.hope all this helps thou
take care

Hi Prinzmetal

I agree with drtanujpuri. Don't repeat your part 1, Instead go for your part 2. Apply early to Boston, Columbia, Tuft, NYU, UPenn and all west coast schools (by the end of August or earlier) with both part 1 & 2 scores. My educated guess is you should get an interview by October. I think key is to apply early. Because BostonU has a rolling admission and early applicants are always successful with average score (yours is above average). And yes get your evaluation done through wes and see if it gets better.

Good Luck,

rahmed

Also do apply to MS/Certificate courses for 2006 cycle through PASS & Match + Direct application to programs (e.g. U of Iowa). I am not sure whether taking DAT is a good idea. Instead aim for GRE in August. That way you will be OK to apply for Ortho and Endo as well (NBDE 1 score of 90 is usual prerequisite for these courses). Lots of MS/Certificate programs do not require GRE and NBDE 1 & 2.

Good Luck, :luck: 👍

Ditto. The same as the above posters!!

1. Reevaluate through wes

2. Do your part 2

3. Do other certificate courses if possible .. or MPH would do!!!

90 is a great score... apply to more schools ... am pretty sure you will get in!!

Hi, I agree with all the above recomendations. U have a great score so no reason to lose hope... Maybe timing was the problem & if u apply early then should definetely get in.
Hang in there....

Thank you guys for answering and all your help and support.
I have no clue how and where to start with part 2.
I have been out of school for 6 years and away from practice for 3 years now.
What should I use to study ? Well I know About decks, old exams and Kaplan book , but considering the fact that I have been away for 6 years they will not probably be so effective.
I also know there is a refrence list on ADA website , but Do you have any experience on what text books are more effective on each subject ?
on what subject actually you can skip the text and just do it with a smaller source.
I thank you in advance for you time and attention.
