Should I set up a meeting with the PD at my home institution?

I'm applying into internal medicine this year, and was wondering if it's recommended that I meet with the program director of the IM residency program at my home institution. I've heard people do this for smaller sized specialties like ophtho or derm, and was wondering if the same applied to IM. I was thinking it could be good to discuss my competitiveness as an applicant, any general advice/tips about applying, and to learn more about my home program. Is it a good idea though? Thanks in advance!

My school offered a meeting with one of the aPDs or the PD to anyone interested in doing so. I don't think there's ever a downside to information gathering. I'd do it.
