I need advice as to whether I should still take the DAT 8/16...in one week? I took TopScore last weekend and got:

Bio:17
Chem: 16
Orgo: 16
RC: 20
OR: 18
PAT: 20

Then I took the Natural Sciences this week and I got:

Bio: 16
Chem: 15
Orgo: 15

The weird thing is when I go back to check the answers, I realize that if I had read the question better, I would have gotten a 19 in Bio and a 17 in Chem. I really need some advice and encouragement. I have been studying since Late May and I want to take the DAT, do well and forget about it...but then again, who actually wants to remember it. Am I on the right track to scoring 18-20's on the real thing?

Hey,

🙁 I'm in the same boat too. Your scores are roughly similar to my topscore 1 score, which I just took yesterday. And i'm taking the test this coming week. I don't feel ready, but I want to take the test. I've been postponing the test for 2 times, I don't want to do it again. So I decided just to take it. And hopefully, like everyone else said, we'll be lucky and the actually test is a bit easiler than the topscore.........

Good Luck to you!

If Topscore practice tests are anything like Kaplan, then they are much tougher then the real DAT. So, take the DAT!

Unless you don't feel psychologically ready for it or something.

So should I be okay with these scores (15-17) on TopScore...by good I mean I would like to get at least 18's in the natural sciences....by the way gatorfan....I agree...go gators....that's my #1 choice as a matter of fact. 😍

it just depends on how u feel..forget about those practice test scores..do u feel like u know the kaplan book well? like if u were just to randomly open up the book would u know the info on that page? i actually delayed taking my dat by a week and i think it helped but we can't tell u what to do 🙂

Take it! You'll be okay. Like you said, if you read the questions carefully, you would have gotten a higher score.

good luck.

take it man, check out my post look at my scores , i took it today and you are scoring higher than me. bust the dat a new one!

I know that it is a real nervous situation. The only thing you have to gauge where you're at is the Top Score scores. And many people give many different advices. Some say go for it, and some say it is good to postpone. Then here is me with another advice.

Honestly, I think anyone who take any standardized tests has to be comfortable with their knowledge level before going in. I was comfortable with what I know and what I didn't know before I went in to take the test.

I do have couple important questions that I think you should reflect when you study the material.

Do you know why you miss those questions on the Top Score? If it is a mistake that you don't know why you made it, it is worth your time understanding your mistakes.

Have you looked or skim through Kaplan? They do have essential material that is good to know.

Some advices: Granted, there will always be questions that you don't know how to do, and that's fine. Afterall, this is a standardized test, which means that they test makers NEEDS TO SPREAD OUT THE TESTEES. (Excuse me here). So, if the question you miss is really minor (you ask how do you know it is minor? It is minor if you haven't seen it on the other test, and you barely even ever come across it in your science preparation). So, if the question you miss is minor, then don't let that question emotionally affect you. It is not worth it in standardized test preparation.

Final note, if what I say doesn't jive with you. Throw it away. Trust yourself, and trust your advice to yourself. It is not easy for most of us because we are all science people, and none of us are very self-reflective/emotionally mature. However, that is okay.

So, I wish you the best, and whenever you take the test, I'm sure you will do well, because I since the ambitious you.
