should I take the August MCAT?

Hi,
Just wondering what everybody thinks - should I take the August MCAT this year or wait until next spring.

Today is the last day to sign up for the test without a late fee. I graduated a couple of years ago with all the pre-med classes under my belt, and I work full time now. I need to do some hard core studying to relearn the information. Is 5 weeks going to be enough time?

If I do poorly, I will take the test again in April. Will it look bad if I take the test twice?

Are you planning on applying this year? Have you started studying at all for the MCAT yet? If the answer to both questions is "no" I would just wait until April. I know that Kaplan offers prep classes beginning in October -- that may be the way to go if you feel like you have a lot of material to relearn and don't want to feel rushed. I wouldn't be surprised if Princeton Review also offered a class that starts in the fall. Personally, I would avoid taking the MCAT twice if I could -- if you don't have any pressing reason to rush into it now, why not wait and put your best effort forward the first time.

Ditto on that one. Put all your efforts in one testing so you know you did your best. I did..or at least I think I did and it was worth doing that than a less than full effort that would have acheived unfulfilled results. I would have hated taking that blasted test again. Good Luck.

If you're not already prepping for the test, don't waste your money. But since the cutoff is in 22 min, I hope you've already decided

Well, I guess I will wait until next April to take the test. I have plenty of time to prepare myself now!

If I did take the test in August, I would apply to med school this year. I don't know how well my chances would have been, so I will work on the rest of my application in the time being...
I am just impatient to get started before my entire brain completely melts into nothing!
