Hi! I haven't received an interview yet and a lot of people have suggested to call because some schools like it/it shows interest. I just don't know what to ask if I call? "Hi, I wanted to check the status of my application"?

Also, I've spent the majority of the year taking care of my dad, who has ALS, and because I'm with him almost 24/7 I haven't been able to really increase my volunteer work/shadowing hours. Nonetheless I'm very interested in becoming a dentist and I'm very eager to begin school! I've been drafting a letter of interest and I was wondering if I should mention needing to take care of my dad?

Thank you so much!

A letter of intent/interest doesn't really hurt you as long as you don't make us feel uncomfortable or seem desperate. Calling is a little less helpful as we'll just say that the file is under review (which it usually is). Just give us an update, and hopefully it will help.
