How do you plan to let programs know that you are really, really interested? What is the proper protocol? I plan to have my chair of medicine call the program on my behalf. But what else can you do? Do you think second looks really make a difference? Has anyone flat out told a PD that you are ranking their program first?

thanks and good luck

was told by the IM PD at my medschool as well as the IM clerkship director that it is appropriate to tell a program directly that you are ranking them #1 (of course only if they are truly your #1). I noticed on another thread that there were some people apprehensive about doing this, and until then I had never heard that this could be construed as being a bad thing. Afterall, aren't they looking for honest, eager and enthusiastic people? I plan to state it in the body of my thank you letter.

one of the residents I met on the interview trail said that she wrote to her top 3 programs saying that she would be ranking them in her top 3. I think later on she might have written to her #1 to let them know they were her top choice. she matched at her #1 choice, so she must have done something right. I think it can't hurt to show interest.
