So when I applied to undergrad schools the college guidence advisors and admissions officers at various schools engouraged people who are especially talented at something to send samples with applications (i.e. if you are a musician send a tape or an artist send slides of work). Is this something that can is done with Med school aps? and if so at what point in the process? Can it be helpful?

Oh yes indeed! They encourage sending in samples. Each application comes with a small plastic cup, please securely close the lid around your sperm sample before submission. Thank you.

Edit: But in all seriousness, the "samples" that are applicable (I don't see how playing music would be beneficial to you practicing medicine) of your talent are: Your Letters of Rec and Publications.

Oh I know that... I was just wondering if this is a good way to show that I have a life outside of school and science and that I have enough passion and drive to become especially talented something like the arts.

Some schools explicitly tell you not to send in things like that, and I think most schools won't have time to go over them anyway. The best thing is to include those experience in your AMCAS app or secondary essays, and to bring those up during interviews.

What Calbee said. They actually do read about your extracurriculars you knows 🙂

So the best thing to do is actually write a kickbutt personal statement if you want to address something special about who you are. Or send in a letter of recommendation from say, a music director who thinks you're cool.

OR HOT!

I think someone who thinks you're hot can write a better (and more personal hehe) letter than someone who merely thinks you're cool

"I am recommending XX for medical school. She has numerous and abundant ASSETS that will greatly increase the prestige and beauty of your school. She has many techniques for making those around her comfortable and excited. I believe by accepting her, your school should have at least a 50% increase amongst the student body regarding gross anatomy."

I agree with the previous posts stating that you should incorporate these into the written parts of your application, and maybe in your interview if possible, but most schools won't actually look at additional materials.

best of luck to you.

One of my friends, when stating he liked to dance, was prompted to teach his interviewer a dance move. After stating I like to sing, I was asked to sing for my interviewer and then to the admin people. It was awesome!

It's just like putting down that you speak a foreign language and the interviewer started talking to you in that foreign language (Thank god that hasn't happened to be before)

I do photography for fun and I sent schools I interviewed at samples of my work (a photo). I don't know if it helped though but one time I went to get some paperwork from my file at my med school and when the lady was looking in my file, I saw my photo in there so they must have seen it and kept it. Atleast they didn't toss it.........hehe

Now a photo is perfectly fine, cause it takes like 3 seconds to glance at it. Submitting a video or tape of art work is probably not as good of an idea b/c no one really has the time to sit down and go through them.
