This is a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure. So if you sign the master promissory note (for Stafford loans) for a certain school (let's say SLU), that doesn't mean you're committed to go there, right? I'm on the WL for another school (let's say AECOM) and I'd rather go there instead of SLU. It just seems weird that you sign this official looking govt. document in triplicate to borrow a massive amount of cash, and then later you say you're not going to borrow it after all. Although if I got into AE then I'd borrow it anyway. But whatever.

No finacial aid is completely separate from admissions. You can easily decline the loan later (my wife did this once so I know it is easily done). So go ahead and sign
