So, ok congratulations to those who got accepted this year. Southern Illinois is one of the two [other being UIC] that is in IL but I haven't seen much threads or information about it.

I believe the class is like 50? [smaller than UIC..] but certainly someone must have been accepted to that school or even interviewed there. Can people post their specs and interview experiences of that school?

Also, it is a given that it will prefer in-state people but I have also heard that SIUE further prefers downstate people?

:p My girlfriend is from Carbondale so SIUE is definitely one of the top schools on my mind. I do hear that they highly prefer instate applicants though...

Hey man

Siue isnt a really popular school around these boards. I applied there this year and had an interview back in november. That was the last i have heard from them. Still no decision on my application. Its okay though. They really do prefer people from a rural background and basically all instate applicants. If you lived on a farm, u are a shoe in. I was kind of upset because they let a kid whose dad was an alumuni even though he was a horrible applicant. He was told to retake his dat even to be considered. Socially its in a very small town but its a half hour from st louis. There basically no girls in Alton so that sucks if you are a guy. Its a pretty laid back environment. Any other questions feel free to ask.
So I guess the rumor about favoring downstaters is true though they won't admit it since they have to treat everyone in-state as equal?

What were your specs? Did you have a degree since SIUE is kind of lax on the number of hours you need to apply unlike UIC's at least 90 semester hours...

I'm A SIUE Grad.....

I can tell you I got an excellent dental education at SIUE. I can also tell you that, socially, it was like being locked up in jail for 4 years. My social and personal development got put on the back burner for the whole time I lived in Alton. However, life is good with a DMD behind your name when it's all over.

Is it expensive to live near the dental school?
Is it safe?
Any suggestions on places to live?
How do you think the job market is for say, spouses of dental students?

I am from a small "hillbilly" farm town originally, but I moved to Chicago and got my undergrad done at UIC. All my talk about being from a rural town on my supplemental application sure didn't help me out last cycle. Even though SIUE has about one-half the total applicants that UIC does, for some reason the admissions officials at both schools have told me that SIU is HARDER to get into for some reason.

It's no wonder they get half the applicants. I believe St. Louis is the nearest "big" city, and that's probably an hour away!
Maybe cause the class is smaller and downstate bias???
