I saw some OMS folk complaining, so I wanted to hear from everyone else.

I'll start with my own stream of consciousness. Now that my rank list is in for pedo, my wife and I have no control whatsoever. And I don't even know if I know the correct rank even if everyone was handing me an acceptance. Thankfully, I had to choose between a few different programs. But then, about half of those that interview don't get into any program at all (according to the match statistics), so maybe I am worried about rank but I should be looking for a job next year? So does that mean that for every person that I talk to who interviewed, one of us will get in somewhere, and one of us won't? Am I going to have to move across the country? Will I get paid? I just want to know! What keeps me sane is that general dentistry is a good "backup" (and what I signed on for originally).

Anyone else feeling like I do? 😱

I've been having nightmares also! The worst nightmare is opening my email from match and finding that it's completely blank =(
If I don't match, I figure I can post-match for a GPR or work for a year and then reapply. I'm just waiting for Match day and then I can figure it out from there. I'm trying not to stress too much about what we don't know =) I'm trying to just stay positive and hope for the best.

At cinci they told us typically people match at one of their top 3. I'm not sure if that meant people who interview there, or in general...but I think in general.

Something you have to realize with the statistics on how many match and how many don't is how many programs each applicant is interviewing at. There are a multitude of applicants out there only interviewing at 1, 2, or 3 programs. These people (and no offense if you are one of these) statistically just don't have as good a chance at matching as someone who interviews at let's say 10 programs. They say the magic number is 7 interviews (unless you're GatorDMD who probably needs at least 25 to have a decent shot :meanie: :meanie: . You know I'm joshin, hotstuff 😍 ). So, if you have any interpersonal skills and went on a fair number of interviews, you're most likely gonna match. If you have a mug like mine and have a mean case of the hiccups, you may wanna start planning for alternative measures :scared: :scared: ... Exactly 3 more weeks 😱 😱

Tigger, you SOB! You just ruined my night and the next 3 weeks! I don't have 7 interviews! C'mon!

All seriousness, A senior graduated from Nova last year, he only applied to two programs, interviewed at two programs, and ranked two programs (Metro Health and CWRU), he matched at his 1st choice (Metro Health).

He suicided for OH because his wife made him. So, I guess there are always exceptions to the norm. I received 6 interviews and only ranked 5. If I don't match, Tigger, I will personally hunt you down and steal your spot where ever you've matched at! :meanie:

Glad I'm not the only one with a restless mind! I've had the dreams (or nightmares) of matching, not matching....just about every possible combination. Interviews seem so long ago, even though they were just last month. I'm just anxious to find out and move on either way. Best of luck to everyone!

Haha, I feel your pain about the nightmares & dreams; I had several of the same. I think my favorite dream/nightmare was the one where I matched at the program at the absolute bottom of my list! The night before match last year, I made sure to get some sedative measures in me so I wouldn't be up at 3am and restless till 9am rolled around.

Good luck everyone!

I'm glad I am not the only one. Now... I can sleep better.

Are you kidding me? He's gonna be chief next year. Whatever poor sod gets that intern spot is going to be earning his paycheck and then some (even for a resident).

Sorry, you're right. The real tears come July 1, 2006... then those tears WILL flow... like rain....

I have been kind of getting fatigued (soft)... old age? I don't know. But over the holidays, I saw a few movies that recharged me and got me pumped up ready to go again.... Roots and Schindler's List.... Bring on July 1, 2006 baby!! "Massa Esclavo" is back on the plantation....

tears of joy, you were trying to say..... 😉

Exactly! JOY! Of course... right.... the nurses think I'm so cruel when I make Bifid cry but those are "joy tears" not "pain tears"....he's really just ecstatic inside... he wouldn't want to be anywhere else.... he wouldn't want to be anywhere else/doing anything else than be with working with trusty esclavo.... He even dumped his hot girlfriend, turned his back on his home in nice warm Florida, put his other aspirations on hold, just to come to the "corn-fields of the midwest" to be my "padowan-youngling"....

esclavo,

If that is a pciture of you on your new "ride", I have to say I like it.

It is a very symbolic picture of a senior resident toughening up the intern.....

Only couple more days till we must submit our final list!!!! I still haven't decided how to rank the schools. I'd like to get feedback on people have have interviewed at USC pedo or know a lot about the program there. Before the interview, I didn't hear many good things about the program. But they did a really nice job of selling the school during the interview. Residents seemed happy on the day of the interview (compared to what other people have told me about unhappy residents at USC) Any feedback would be appreciated 🙂

I had the same debates. I had heard residents were miserable at some places but they 'seemed' happy at the interview. I think the things I had heard were true, anyone can ham it up for a day or two for interviewees. I must say the things I heard beforehand left me a little biased about the program. But, with that said, who knows why people are unhappy. What one person hates about a program could be something someone else loves.

Esclavo...you never cease to amaze

Just make sure you have great sex the night before the match. That will definitely put you to sleep and make you forget your worries. Worked for me at least......haha :meanie:

When is match day?

Jan 30. I am soo excited. I heard this morning that the computers for match were down and having some problems. I sure hope people haven't procrastinated too long. In this situation. That would really stink to not match because you waited to long to submit your list and then have the computers not get your ranks in!!!! Imagine losing a year of your life because you couldn't make up your mind how to rank the programs!!!! I'm sure someone out there is sweating blood....

Considering most of us have already lost 4 years of our lives in dental school.

I've heard that Esclavo is a great ride. However, I will not divulge how I came across such information...ahem...TX...cough...ahem...

I didn't think that picture was that confusing... do they have their "own" "unique" way of toughening up the interns at parkland? Besides if I wanted to depict me giving the intern a ride I would have found a monkey sitting on a cleidsdale stallion's or an elephant's back...the monkey would have this really dazed look in his eyes..... 😉

I've been known to frequently carry Esclavo around on my shoulders... he's a small dude. This way he can see above the crowd during rounds.

nope, like Luke carried Yoda. It is all apart of the intern "experience"....If Yoda had a mexican accent he and I would be hard to tell apart... except I've got more hair growing out of my ears....
