Wondering if anyone had any suggestions on tactfully approaching professors to hurry up with their recommendation letters, cuz Its been over 2 weeks since they agreed to write me a rec and some of my professors have still not sent them in.

I have had the same problem with profs slacking with the letters. Two weeks isn't that much time though...I've been waiting like 2 months, and each time I speak w/ them, they say "i'll send it in this weekend" and it never gets done. You just have to keep on them, so they don't forget about the letters entirely.

If I may ask, which professors are you trying to get recs from? I went to Chapel Hill for a year and remember some of the profs. I'd like to go back there and don't want to get stuck in the rut you're in now!

Best of luck.

You should give them more than two weeks, especially since classes have started at all schools by now. After three weeks, you should drop by their office or give them a call/email to say it's rather urgent that they complete your rec ASAP. Most people feel like they are imposing on the prof when they approach them. But as one of my recommenders told me, it is part of their job responsibility to write recommendations for students.

Unfortunately, you are not in a comfortable position since you asked them quite late (not getting down on you--so did I!), so you will just have to sweat it out and keep politely prodding them to get it done.

Good luck!

Soccerofever-the only one left is my physics prof, rowan (teaches 24 and 25).
the other recs i got were from my major profs and my phil 22 prof.

I asked my professors for recommendations before classes were done for the spring semester. This way, they have plenty of time to write recommendations (if they are not doing research or teaching during summer sessions). The only drawback is sometimes they do forget to write them over the summer, but it's not your fault. And it lets the professor know that even though he or she may/may not have forgotten to write the recommendation, at least you gave them enough time.
