I play and record music, and uploaded a few songs to a website. I included that website in the AMCAS extracurriculars description so that ADCOM members could check it out if they want to. now im having second thoughts...any comments? haha

oh, and I also had a poem published, and included the online instrctions (click this and click that) in the description section...good, or real bad? lol

hope i dont piss them off

Um, lol, I don't know...I would have probably saved that stuff for a secondary. It seems kind of weird on AMCAS....but hey, who knows, maybe it'll float their boat.:hardy:

Hmmm, that's certainly a unique thing to do - although I don't know if any adcom would really take the time to surf the web for more application materials. I don't think that adding the links will hurt you but... I bet both will come up at interviews.

I think it's cool, and I would definitely check it out.

I don't have the time or energy to do a search for it, but I believe LizzyM (an adcom member who posts here frequently) said she's had people do things like this, and it makes it very easy if they're reviewing your file on a computer to click on the link and check it out. Takes only a few seconds, and can be interesting. She seemed to have nothing but positive comments about it, IIRC.

I'm not sure if you wanna do this but I'm interested in hearing it, lol. Can you give us the link?

Sounds really unique. Should help you out too, as long as you didn't use it in lieu of posting another EC that would have added more. You'll be memorable to the adcoms...which is pretty much what everyone's going for.

unless it's marilyn mansonesque and totally inappropriate music,...

Agree -- if we are talking about eg. gangsta rap about mistreating [women] and popping caps into people, it's not a good idea. If it's something you would be comfortable with relatively conservative folks your parents' age listening to, then go for it.

I posted a link to a video of me pole dancing and I have four interviews already. Should I be worried that three of them are at Motel 6?

I sent a DVD of me violently viper-kicking overweight children in the spleen.

7 interviews. Huzzah.

THanks for all the comments...very encouraging indeed :) The music I make is only instrumental, and I have a sample of 4 songs on there.

I will post a link up shortly, as I need to modify the name and all so I can protect my identity haha...and I'll post up my poem as well.

Hopefully I dont get rotten tomatoes thrown at me!! lol

I think it could work to your advantage, especially since you said you do instrumental music, which is unlikely to offend anybody. And most people tolerate it at the very least, if they don't like it. If you were to say you do punk rock, country, hip hop, electronica, etc., then I'd be worried.

I don't see anything wrong with it, really... Even with a perfect "normal" app, you'll have certain people do everything they can to pick you to nothing...

True story, I swear. I have a friend who plays in a death metal band and has lot of Tattoos, which he covered for his interview. He tried to hide this side of him during interviews, put on a suit, covered his tattoos, took off his punk bracelets. At the interview of this top 20 ranking medical school, the interviewer asked him about his hobbies and he mentioned music. He just said he was in a bad and tried to avoid answering further. Interviewer pushed, so he finally revealed his secret. Turns out the Dean of the Medical School was a HUGE death metal fan, so the interviewer introduced him. They wanted to see his tattoos, and he spent a good while talking to the dean about his interest. He now sits pretty with an acceptance.

So my point is, I think as long as your website doesn't have anything illegal on it, don't worry! If it does have anything crazy controversial you still have time to edit the website....If you think the poem reveals too much of yourself, then take away the link and repost when you have an acceptance.
