Treo 650 and Tungsten T5 Memory Allocation issues
Question
Will Epocrates work with my Treo 650 or Tungsten T5 device?
Answer
There is a known issue with memory allocation on the Treo 650 and Tungsten T5 models.
According to Palm, the Tungsten T5 and Treo 650 are using a new file allocation system that is unlike previous devices. The new file system is called NVFS or Non Volatile File System. It allows the handheld to store data in the event of a battery failure or power loss. Small files, such as contacts or tasks, must now be stored in chunks that are much larger than the actual files themselves. This means that the same files a user stored on previous Palm based devices might not all fit on the Treo 650 or Tungsten T5.
What does this mean to me?
The installation of Epocrates will take up more space on these 2 devices than it will on other devices with the Palm operating system. Data will require 33 percent more storage capacity on the Treo 650 and Tungsten T5. Please be aware of this issue when preparing to install the program.
What about a storage card? Can I put Epocrates on the card?
Epocrates cannot be installed to a memory card and must be stored on the main memory of your handheld. It will not launch properly if any portion of the application is installed on a storage card.
