So, I left medical school.

The weird feelings people get from 5hr energy is usually bc of the niacin "flush" not really the caffeine. It has (as the commercials love to say) "the same amount of caffeine as a regular cup of coffee!".

Niacin flush, caffeine, it doesn't matter just keep it coming.

Honestly, just from the interview trail, I am under the impression that its not MD/DO dependent at all, but is actually more dependent on the type of students that the schools go for (so the school mission). The school I will be attending has many more non-trads as a whole and some of their other requirements point to looking for more altruistic and mature people. The other school that I first mentioned definitely attracted a younger crowd of students (most were still in undergrad), the school was a lot more numbers heavy, and they definitely seemed less focused on service. So I really think where the difference is at is in the students that they look for.

Ha, yeah that's why I *almost* signed up to be a tour guide... I was tired of listening in on the sunshine that was being blown up interviewee's butts.

yeah, they even warn you about the Niacin flush on the website! I have a full-on allergy to sucralose, too, so I get the whole tongue swelling, throat closing, rash and jazz with it, too. It's super fun stuff.

The key to succeeding in med school is learning to compartmentalize and also be ok knowing you will not always be the top. I still fail to ee the points she wsa making bc her whole video sounded like a bunch of rambling on and on and on and on rather than something to help people who are contemplating leaving the field. I've known many girls who did not make it past M1 or M2 and are happy with their life. A couple guys too. Here at my school. But within those who make it, people are type A are always going to be high strung and stressed out hough may still be happy with their life in their own way. People who learn to compartmentalize, play the game they need to play to not gt played by the system, and who learn to find some semblance of balance with exercise/eating right are the ones who are generally happy but there is a reason they chose lifestyle specialties to primary care and things more needed. You get to a point where you see the burnout in med school and have a choice to either deal wth a crappy system or choose a specialty where you are not sacrificing all your sanity and happiness.

As per her family planning mentionings..... There is time in 4th year and in med school in general to have a family if ou have supportive people in your life to help you out. That is on you. There will always be stress no matter what you do but you choose. I know doctors who work part time only 30 hours a week or who are female radiologists working out of their home so they can be with their kids. It is more than doable. But it involves a level of sacrifice. Most schools give you time to finish your MD. If you needed to take a year off you can do so.
Hi just wanted to chime in and say I love your posts. Wish there was a universal feminist fistbump.

Oh jfc I just realised those user icons are just placeholders.. damn

Because their replies seem level-headed (and used what I perceived as nongendered pronouns)...but I jumped the gun and realised their icon was just a placeholder not a specific representation of libfem ideals th

ok so feminism = level-headed?

I wasn't aware that synonym existed

Yeah what? "I thought she was a feminist because her replies seemed level headed"

"Their" also sounds terrible when referring to one person but whatever.

It's weird, most people don't realize how different they are on amphetamines. They really make you a different person, and it is rarely a better one. You're more focused, but less... You? I totally lost my sense of humor, and didn't have the patience to listen to people, etc. I hated how I felt on it.

Good luck down the road though. You're on the right track.
How common is it that people are taking these meds? I remember my roommates who were all in different grad programs (med, law) and were abusing them. I still haven't been able to have any frank conversations about its prevalence...

Very common. I'm leaving it at that.

I do because I have to. I literally changed summer between first and second year. I hate admitting it but it's true.
****, your car insurance bill must be astronomical.

Not really. More like insurance doesn't cover it so you pay out of pocket.
I've yet to get any benefit from paying insurance. I've had only one accident that was my fault from 6 years ago. The only "insurance payment" I made was a radar detector. My company applauded my improved record with no speeding tickets. Yeah, thank Escort.

I was just not so subtly pointing out that you seem to literally mean "figuratively" in that part I quoted.

Nothing wrong with using Adderall if you have to. It's the ones that would have okay performance without it but basically want performance enhancement that bother me.

Lol I didn't get mine from Devon but you can def find some there fosho

You know. I'm not a huge Chicago fan. The ADA is headquartered there so occasionally I have to go for stuff, but other than that, meh. Its like the Midwest's cute attempt at a NYC or something.

+/- their deep dish pizza = pizza casserole. That's cute too.

I am a newyorker - from Long Island but the place is damn too expensive for its own good. But family moved to Chicago so I guess I will be heading there too sooner or later

Maybe she isnt nosey and has no interest in pjtting judgment on others. Some people just dont care about gunners or no gunners and move on with med school. Cut the drama....either way we will all be Drs. Just saying
If you're going to insert yourself in a conversation that ended eons ago, you should know what is being said and the reply it was being made to, and the context. And he's a he, not a she. Thx.

Were you saying you were diagnosed in that summer or thats when you had symptoms?

I haven't checked this thread in a while, there's been about 34890 new RANDOM comments and I managed to read one by @gujuDoc that was extensive to the point of being a personal statement, commenting on how I was rambling. Thank you for taking the time to listen long enough for you to reach that ignorant realization! The world is better knowing your opinion.

Let me be as straight up as possible about this: I LEFT MEDICAL SCHOOL BECAUSE I (AS IN ME, PERSONALLY) HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. This has nothing to do with the medical field, which like I did say in my video, is absolutely amazing. AMAZING. As are all of the people (yes, even the gunners) in it.

aaand commence the nonsensical arguing that led me to my reasoning in the first place that I'd rather contribute to a field where people will willingly hear out other intelligent individuals (YES, EVEN FEMALES -- GASP, WE ARE INTELLIGENT TOO), and get out of one where everyone is on a self-fulfilling power trip to nowhere. And when you go to bed at night, I hope you have a nice, sexy hand stroking each of your individual egos. Or maybe you'll just go and jerk off to your recent publication on PubMed. Get a grip. Embarrassing, for any of you who spent your genuinely valuable time reading this and felt the need to put me down or anyone else. You might get a thrill out of intimidating one another, but the amount of intimidation you evoke in me is absolute zero. Zero kelvin.

NYC >>>> anywhere else on planet Earth

Something about the constant smell of trash and the insane cost of living really turns me off. Great place to visit, but I'd much rather be living in a beach house in Hawaii than an 800 square foot closet in the big city.

I will take my concrete jungle. My bitchy people. The pollution. The traffic. The headache of getting around. All of it. Over pretty much any other major city in the world.

And Fancy's gotten around quite a bit. Mwahaha :X
