Just wondering what you guys think about interviews that are just....well....sort of ok. I had my first one recently and everything went ok, I mean, I don't think I screwed anything up, but I just didn't feel like it was all that great either. All the questions were very run-of-the-mill. This is my top choice school and I just don't have a clue what to expect! Do you think this is a good sign or a bad sign?

Thanks!~

You really never know in this process. I came out of my last interview feeling good...but nowadays I continue to ponder how well I actually did more and more --> all it really does is foster doubt. Only the adcom will know if it's good or bad, as there are many cases of people feeling they did awesome and getting rejected, as well as people who felt they did horrible and landing an acceptance. Only time will tell, set all thoughts aside for now, I say!

Yup. I came out of my first interview feeling pretty good, but I realize that most likely your interviewer is NOT going to let you know what they really feel about you. You can't know for sure until you get the thick or thin letter.... :scared:

I just feel like it was too easy or something. Hoping this is a good thing I guess. Thanks for the feedback already....I have been only reading SDN at this point and this is my first attempt at a thread. BTW Turkeyman I love your name, I have always been known to call people turkey, so I think it's awesome!

After my Wake Forest interview I thought for sure I was going to get accepted. One of my interviewer had commented, "You're too prepared for me!" and another interviewer commented in an email that I was "an outstanding applicant." I just got the waitlist letter yesterday. Go figure!

Just remember that the interview is only one element of your overall "package." Individuals who have great interviews may still have flaws in other parts of their application (it would be nice if all of these cases were weeded out pre-interview, but it's just not the case in many schools) or may just not fit in with the greater mission and/or student body of the school. Hence, I really don't feel that much can be gleaned from your interview experience unless you have an absolutely horrible interview; one story that comes to mind was an applicant who claimed to be a concert pianist but actually wasn't - on the day of his Yale interview, imagine how surprised he was to see a piano in the interview room!

Just do your best and let them decide whether or not you'll fit in their program.

yeah, i had the exact same experience with another school...the interview day went incredibly smooth...i practically felt like i was already a student after the interview, and then i got waitlisted...a week after that interview, i had another interview on a rainy day where i had a horrible sinus infection and felt like i'd completely blown my chances, and got accepted...it really doesn't seem like there's any way to judge our performances after interviews...especially not even knowing how much wait the actual interview carries.

Hahaha I've never heard of anyone calling someone else turkey, but it's a start 👍 . A good start!

My mom calls people who do stupid things when they're driving "turkeys", like when they cut her off and stuff. Sorry, I've just always found it amusing, not to belittle you at all Turkeyman. Trickster poultry. 🙂

What I thought was my worst interview was my first acceptance. And what seemed my best interview was the only school that waitlisted me.....Go Figure. I think it is a very random process from school to school. 🙄

I got accepted!! I love OHIO STATE!! 😍

Yeah Ohio State lets you know accepted, rejected, or deferred decision two weeks after your interview. Nice and fast! 👍

I had a friend in highschool that I shared a locker with. Somehow we started calling one another turkeys. (I think because we were both too polite and kept asking the other how they were doing in between classes.) From that point on, it was always a contest to see who slipped first and asked the other "How are you doing?" The standard answer of course being: "I'm OK, but you're a turkey!"

Heehee. Wondering if any of you remember an old anti-marijuana ad on TV where one kid is smoking and the other kid refuses, and the first kid calls the second kid a chicken. The kid replies: "I'm not a chicken, you're a turkey!"
Hahaha we used to love to quote that when I was a kid!
Haven't thought of that in years.
