Either by now, or very very shortly, all of the PDs will know exactly who matched into their respective programs.

The rest of us will have to wait until tomorrow, but that's ok because having a nationwide match day and organized match day events at individual schools just adds to the feelings of anticipation and importance.

The board is quiet as people wait.

I'm jealous of all you people who have organized match day events! Our DO school doesn't even attempt to do that (they don't help us scramble, although they sent out some strange email late on Monday about emailing them if we needed anything faxed or mailed during the scramble...). 😎

Best wishes to all who had to scramble yesterday - I helped a friend and it SUCKED! 👎

Best of luck to you all for tomorrow! :luck: Hope you get your first choice!! 😀

Scrambling is not much fun. I think there were a few people in my class who had applied to the most ultra-competitive residencies and did not plan any backup so they those unluckly few were in the scramble judging by the looks on their faces. Don't know for sure though because no one really has the heart to ask.

So did your friend find a place? And can you describe the anatomy of the scramble? Were there telephone interviews going on and a mad rush of faxing as we have been led to believe?

Yeah, he was trying for EM and Drew jerked him around all day (he still hasn't heard from them)... apparently they didn't call anyone yesterday... he got a spot in IM in California so we're okay with that (we couples matched so he was limited geographically). The only good part about it was that I already know where I'm going...and it was my third choice on the west coast. 😀

Yeah, we had three of us and we were on the computer, calling, and printing at the same time. I was using two phones to call to get through to programs, and it took an average of 15 minutes to get through right at noon because the line was busy... we didn't end up having to fax since a lot of places went through ERAS. The other surprising thing was that we found out he had been ranked very highly on one of his prelim choices and they only went two spots beyond (they had six spots and filled by 8th rank). so that was interesting.

I'm just glad it's over although we're a little disappointed he didn't get EM, but he'll get there eventually one way or another... 🙄

curious....do you mean you were in the early match? otherwise how do you know where you're going?

No, when you couples match, if one partner doesn't match you can call the NRMP to find out the city the matched person ended up in (which pretty much tells you what program unless its NYC) so that the other person can scramble geographically to that area. So he was able to call on Monday and find out what city I matched to (and there was only one program in that particular city). 🙂
