I'm on the waitlist and hoping to get in. There are some people around here that are going. There was even a thread a while ago about all the DC SDNers getting together. :)

Yea, I noticed that thread. Something about GW, Georgetown, and Howard SDNers getting together? But, that was a while back. And, now since May 15 has come and gone....I was thinking perhaps some people had cemented their commitment to GW...I guess not. hehe.

Now that the GW waitlist is moving, all you being accepted don't forget to post here! :D

All those Californians going to GW - drive or fly?

Hey Kero!
Sorry, forgot to search for this post. I would love to meet all the GWU SDNers before orientation. I think I'll be flying there, and hire a moving co. to take my stuff over. First, I thought it'd be fun to do a long road trip, but then sanity kicked in. j/k I can't find anyone willing to drive out with me, so that idea was out.

Congrats, KDocGirl! I knew you'd get in! :p

Yeah. The road trip will certainly be interesting...

Add me to the list...YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See you in DC!

Congrats, Naya! I PMed you....

I was wondering, those people that are going to GW this fall...did anyone receive their financial aid packet yet?

Hey all, I just posted on the GW waitlist thread, but I'll be joining you at GW in the fall

I'm totally excited and totally clueless about where to find housing...but hey, it'll be an adventure, right? :D

I'll be at GW this Fall too!!

Kid Doc- my adivce to you is to start looking for housing ASAP. I just moved back to NY from the DC area- so I know how difficult and expensive it is to live there!

Congrats KidDoc and Phinicky!! Our GW fam is growing!

Thanks for the congrats KDocGirl!

Phinicky -congratulations to you as well. I do intend to start the housing search soon...I actually will be moving to DC from NY :)
My big dilemma as far as I can tell (at the moment) is whether or not I should shoot for being close to the school (lots of $$$ and likely no car) or stay more in the outskirts/suburbs (less $$$, can keep a car, but have to deal with commuting issues to school)...how are the rest of you thinking about all of this?

kid Doc-
I'm heading down to DC next weekend to try and find a place. I'm in the same boat as you- would like to be close to the school, but also keep my car. I figure I' check out some places near the school, but also places in Arlington. Ideally, I'd like to be within walking distance from the metro- so if you're close to any of the stops on the blue line commuting won't be a problem.

feel free to PM me if you have questions

Hey all,

I just got back from DC and here is my advice...stay in the suburbs and spend less money but live somewhere where they have a shuttle to the metro and that will keep the cost and hassles down to a minimum. I am probably going to be living in Arlington, most likely Pentagon City. Word of advice, use the Post and the Apartment showcase to find places and definitely look around. Also, regarding financial aid...I talk to the woman there and she said that we should be getting our packages in about 2 weeks or so depending on when you got all of your stuff in. Anyway, don't forget to register between july 1 and aug 23rd or you will get fined 80.00.
i think this is all the stuff i have to update.

later ,
NYPB

Thanks nypostbac for the update! So thoughtful! :D

Congrats to everyone going to GW! Don't forget about our DC get together we are having between all of the DC med schools. I am moving to Georgetown at the end of July. G-town's Orientation starts August 14th...what about GW? Maybe we can pick a date and plan on getting together before our Orientations start to break the ice....post if you think it still sounds like a good idea.

Cali-Girl,
GW's orientation starts Aug. 21, so that's not too long after GT. Yeah, count me in on the get-together. I remember naya was interested too.

I'll be at GW this year also and I've just started thinking about the housing situation. Does anyone know if there is a roommate matching service or something similar at GW? I would prefer to live with another med student.

Grumpy

hey guys just wanted to meet some of my classmates for the next 4 years....By the way do you guys know if there are other people that are looking for roommates somewhere close to school... and what is the price range..
thanks

oh and is the pre orientation party only for DC girls or guys are invited also...

For roommate information, call the Dean's office and see if they can put you in touch with the person on the orientation committee who's handling this. GW's orientation is run by a committee of MS-IIs (it's well done and a nice start to the year) and they try to think of everything.... but because their classes only ended a few weeks ago, they're probably just now getting into high gear on orientation planning. But hopefully someone can help you. Welcome to Washington! .... from a GWU MS-III

ok cool thanks for your help.

oh by the way are there any guys or girls that want to stay right around school and are looking for a roommate please let me know thanks

Woooohooo! Congrats to everyone that got accepted, and good luck to all those of you still waiting to hear the good news~ I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! :D

djsash - personally, I found the gw offcampus housing website to be useful, although a tad outdated at times. It's a good resource for finding out the price ranges and the market. It's under the housing section on the GW website.

Also, just a reminder to everyone, immunizations are due in August, so if you haven't started your Hepatitis B shot series...I'd suggest doing it soon, I found out they take a loooooong time.

Ohyeah, as for financial aid, did anyone here receive any institutional aid? If so, could you PM me? Thanks.

Hey all my fellow GWers! :D

Is anyone going to do that Ropes Course? Personally, it sounds a tad scary ~ I'm a little afraid of heights....

Also, what are people wearing for the White Coat Ceremony? Suits required? I'm kinda interested in what the girls will be wearing...I don't know if we need to wear a dress or a nice blouse and slacks will be fine?

Did everyone hear from their big sibs yet? Mine is great! :)

18 more days till Orientation! Yay!

Oh, do the ropes course - it is a ton of fun and a wonderful way to get to know your classmates better. I was terrified too but had a fantastic time and was so proud of myself for doing stuff that I didn't think I could do. Also, you will not be pressured to do anything that you don't feel comfortable doing. If you don't want to climb something, you'll be given another responsibility, e.g. standing on the ground and holding the lines that keep your classmate safe up in the air. DO IT. It's fun.

White coat ceremony - business attire. Gals can wear pants/skirt with a nice shirt, or a dress. Pantyhose are optional in DC during August :p (It was 100F here yesterday with high humidity, ugh.) Guys should have a tie. No one should wear a suit, because you'd just have to take off the jacket anyway.

And here's more information you didn't ask about: there will be book sales during the first few days - don't buy anything in advance! I and my fellow MS-IIIs will be unloading a lot of our basic science books now that we've passed Step One (wooo-hooo). I remember adding up all the book costs in the orientation book and coming to a total of something like $900. Thanks to the used book sale I actually spent about $200.

Welcome to GWU!
