SOAP, couples match, and the NRMP--haaalp

hi guys,

so i'm applying in anesthesia, and my fiance is applying in internal.

we've cast a very wide net and have had a fairly-decent response from programs with regard to similar geographic areas.

BUT (and here's a big but) ...we're thinking that, to improve our chances, i should rank advanced positions. and since we can't rank my prelim spots as part of our couples rank list, that means i'm basically guaranteeing myself that if i get that advanced spot, i'm going to have to SOAP into a prelim (either in IM or surg, i'll take anything)

my question is--if we have to SOAP before we get our official match outcome, how will i know where (geographically) to consider SOAP positions? is there any way we can contact the NRMP to determine the city in which we matched? will we get any feedback with regard to this???

The NRMP will tell you what city your advanced match is in. You call them during SOAP, and they will tell you.
