Ok, so if you tell people that 1m is the new recommendation (or three $5 footlongs laid end-to-end so Americans know what ~1m is) folks are just going to disregard keeping a safe distance in public even more. It’s like, wearing a mask *probably* isn’t protecting the wearer much, but letting the wide-spread impression that that’s the case continue on might get more people to wear them.

Ok, so if you tell people that 1m is the new recommendation (or three $5 footlongs laid end-to-end so Americans know what ~1m is) folks are just going to disregard keeping a safe distance in public even more. It’s like, wearing a mask *probably* isn’t protecting the wearer much, but letting the wide-spread impression that that’s the case continue on might get more people to wear them.

An even more effective tactic: “you can’t buy things in stores or pick up your takeout unless you are 6 feet apart and wearing a mask”. Everyone has found a way to wear one with that ordinance in place.
