Any Illinois residents out there who will be attending S.I.U. this fall? I've been accepted there and I'm still waiting to hear from U.I.C. I've also been accepted to Nova, a school about which I can't say enough. Nova's captured my heart, but at a pretty steep cost. I'm thinking about having Uncle Sam pick up the tab through an Army or Air Force Scholarship. I have yet to visit Southern's campus. Thoughts, anyone??

I have been accepted to UIC, but NOT SIU. I would choose SIU any day over UIC. Even though its in a small town, their program is better then UIC's. The campus is small, I visited there 3 years ago. Its very comfortable, and beautiful. You walk b/w rows of Oaks to get to class. The classes are often in old houses. The clinic is nice, kind of small. I think they have only 60 dental chairs in the main clinic, so alot of sharing unless they have chairs for the freshmen in another building. They also have a building in Edwardsville, but I haven't seen it.

Nova is a good school. I am sure Yah-e of UofM01 will give you their 2cents on that.

I too am applying for the Army schollarship. I however am going to Indiana Univ. (much more $$ then Nova or SIU), and am waiting any day to here from my recruiter.

This is my deal, SIU is a good school (but they haven't accepted me yet), so is IU. If I get the Army schollarship I am definitely going to IU, if not I would go to SIU (if they accepted me) and pay for it out of my pocket (with loans). IU at $55,000 per year vs SIU $25,000. :( I think going to SIU in state, and paying for it with the Army or AirForce scholarship is a waste. They are getting a super deal. If you go to Nova, then try for the schollarship.

    Steiner,
I share the same sentiments. If I do go in-state, there's no way I'll do the Army scholarship.
I'm surprised that you'd take S.I.U. over U.I.C. The fact that S.I.U. is in such a small town is a total turnoff for me. Why were you not impressed with U.I.C? Ann Shorrock is giving me the total run-around. I assume the class must almost be filled, and she's been telling me for weeks that my application is in the process of being reviewed.

    Hey Melbourne:

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. I'm trying to decide b/w SIU and Nova...but I think I'm goin' to Nova.

Definitely a tough decision for me. Especially since Dr. DeClue was so nice to me. I also know a lot of the students there from undergrad. In fact, I just went out with 3 of them this past weekend. Each of them are doin' awesome (#1 in his 4th year class, #5 in his 3rd year, #3 in his 2nd year). They all like the school, but that area sucks. Not crime-wise, but socially/economically.

I worked at UIC for 9 months at the OS department and a couple of the students told me that if I were their son, they would steer me towards SIU instead of UIC. UIC is just a mess. I hear from a lot of people that SIU has a better program.

I'm pretty sure I'll be goin' to Nova b/c it, by far, out-trumps the facilities at SIU/UIC. It's a tough decision, though. Price-wise, you can't beat SIU....but to quote my tour guide at Nova: you're studying in a stress-free environment in Ft. LAuderdale. I just felt that at SIU everyday would be cloudy and cold. Plus, you'd be surrounded by pick-up trucks. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> PM me if you want to know more about SIU/UIC. I actually went to Wesleyan and know Edwardsville really well.

Yah-E, how's your housing thing goin?

    Jeff,

This Melbourne guy is actually my future roommate at Nova if he ever decides what school he wants attend! Him and I had the same interview day together at Nova. So as soon as "Melbourne" figures out what he wants to do, then I will have a more solid idea of what I need to do for housing. In the mean time, I lined up an agent in Fort Lauderdale that will find properties for me when I want him to. We'll just have to give him the price range, where we want to live, and other necessities and he'll go to work and find potential places. I am glad to hear that you've decided on Nova over Illinois schools, I'm excited to meet our class!

Yeah, I'll be headin' down to Florida early May to scout some apartments...but I think Eric and I are plannin' on staying as close to the campus as possible...at least for the first year! Your place will definitely be the bachelor pad.

When are you planning on actually moving there for good? I'm thinking around late July (1 week before orientation).
