I have just received an email from my school of pharmacy about a Spanish course for healthcare professionals. I am very interested in the course, but there is a Two-year high school or college Spanish requirement. Does the pre-requiste sound outrageous to you?

I heard that there are Spanish courses only focus on giving patient instructions that no prior language course is needed. I am just wondering has anyone heard about Spanish for healthcare professional classes that do not have any pre-requisite.

In Florida, it is required that you take two years of a foreign language to graduate from high school. I don't know if other states are like this as well, but maybe they're assuming that the majority of people took this foreign language in high school. Also, it was required to have 2 years of a high school language to earn my BS. I'm sure all states have different requirements though. My biggest problem is that they assume that you took Spanish as your second language. Although in Florida most of us did because it can be quite beneficial at times.

Midwestern also has a Medical Spanish elective with no prerequisite requirement.
