Spinal Cord Injury Medicine is a specialty dedicated to traumatic and non-traumatic disorders of the spinal cord. It is a one year ACGME-accredited fellowship training program that allows graduates to sit for ABPMR sub-specialty board certification. Given the obvious overlap, neurology residents are encouraged to apply.

The Case Western Reserve University SCIM Fellowship Program is a leader in the field. Please see below for details and email if you are interested.

The SCIM Fellowship training program at Case Western/MetroHealth provides unique training through the collaboration of three amazing and diverse institutions. The MetroHealth System is a level 1 trauma center and a NIDILRR funded SCI Model System Center. The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is the third largest VA in the country and a Certified Center for SCI, MS and ALS care. The world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation exposes fellows to subspecialty care including neuro-urology, spasticity management and neurosurgery. Focus is placed on clinical and academic excellence with protected research/elective time to encourage exploration and personal growth. Core clinical experiences include consultation of acute injuries, acute rehabilitation and chronic medical management. Fellows maintain a weekly continuity clinic and have regular didactic education. Other opportunities include advanced wound care, intrathecal pump management, tendon and nerve transfer surgery, functional electrical stimulation and ventilator management. Fellows are encouraged to present at local and national conferences and are mentored to grow as medical educators. Faculty includes six SCIM-certified physicians in addition to other national respected clinicians, researchers and therapists. Two fellow positions are available. Funding is available to support attendance at national meetings and basic research. Spinal Cord Injury Fellowship
