That's traditionally been the case. I was the last class where we applied for fellowships without ERAS, and were just on NRMP. Traditionally the due dates for apps were around Sept 1, and some even Oct 1. The reason the ERAS date starts in July 15 is to keep it in line with the medicine subspecialties, which their match date is in Dec (sports med match day is the 1st Wednesday of January).

Remember as attendings we have to prepare our fellows as much as possible for football. It's a crash course until the first game. After that first game, THEN people will start looking at apps.

How do attendings prepare fellows for for football? Do the fellows have help near by in the beg.?

Crash course of MSK exams. Learning emergency sideline management things like spine boarding, equipment removal, managing dislocations and fractures on the field, etc. Getting to know the EAP (Emergency Action Plan) for each stadium/game. Massive fall physicals for the teams you cover to know the athletes.
Traditionally fellows cover HS games solo, and there is an attending for the college/pro sports with the fellow tagging along.

I didn’t have any publications, but for the COE, I emailed every program coordinator/director (that I applied to) a copy of the COE form. I’m pretty sure you can attach a copy of your publication page to that email as well.

Also applying this year. In ERAS it lists a contact e-mail address on each program. I did as the poster above said and e-mailed the Code of Ethics along with publication info to those e-mail addresses. I got a reply from the majority stating that they added them to my file and would be reviewing applications in the coming weeks/months. So sounds like that is the right way to do it, rather than waiting for an interview invitation. Best of luck!

Again, most programs won’t send their invites until September at the earliest. I doubt many, if any programs, have already sent out invites. As others have said, invites typically won’t go out until after the first week of college football.

Would you mind telling us which programs have sent out interview invites to you and/or your colleague? Much appreciate it!

Invites come in at seemingly random times. No rhyme or reason to it, but Galactus spelled all this out during my year as well.

Remember that you are interviewing them as well. You are spending $160K atleast on opporunity cost, so know what you want/need from the year and understand how the individual programs will get you there. Do not be distracted by glitter. What can the fellows ACTUALLY DO/ARE DOING when they are done.

I don’t think PD’s have time to look at SDN, but I’m sure fellows do...it’s hard to post anything right now without making it easier to narrow down who you are. A few programs have sent out invites, but Galactus said that they really start sending out offers in September (a lot of the fellowship websites say the applications are due by September 1st). I think people are hesitant to post where they have invites from just in case.

I have 1 interview offer and probably 5-6 rejections =(

Question for those who have done this, or who are on the other side. Should we send updates to programs if we have new manuscripts accepted for publications, awards, abstracts/session proposals accepted at conferences, etc? Is it helpful or just annoying for programs to get more e-mails to process?
