I've been to two interviews, and in both of them there were one or two people who were total spotlight hogs. They try to talk and talk and talk in group type activities, overdoing it to try to be noticed by the admissions people.

During any open question periods, they will excessively ask questions just for the sake of asking. The questions they ask quickly become pointless, and it is painfully obvious to everyone else.

It's good to ask questions and be noticed, but I'm annoyed by people who overdo it and don't allow others to be noticed. Has this happen at everyone else's interviews?

That's just another personality type/style. A lot of pharmacists are introverted, but not all.

Some people may feel the need to "over do it" in life, because they have always felt the need to "over do it". There's nothing wrong with being noticed; it's part of our culture--> think about designer clothes or Hollywood celebrities.

It might be more of a problem if a student at an interview does not say anything at all, because that person will not give any kind of feedback for the admission committee to evaluate.

Don't worry too much about those interview overachievers. You aren't auditioning to be a talk show host or anything, so their style of Q&A is pretty irrelevant. Just do your best.

Good Luck!

I think that this happens everywhere. It certainly happened during my interviews and it's happened during the interviews I've helped with. But be reassured that the admissions committee notices this just as much as you do. I've even seen it where a person that was hogging all the attention was lightly reprimanded to allow someone else to talk.

On the other hand, you shouldn't just sit quietly and wait for someone to talk to you during an interview - you need to be sure that you get your ideas and personality across.

yeah ive seen that at group activities but u have to try to get the first say bc when u try to but in the middle its hard. DONT LET them get all the credit u MUST step up and have ur say, i repeat u MUST. If they want to be aggressive and not let u have a say then be more aggresive until ur satisfied then chill out after ur done with ur part. just remember to be nice even if u dont want to. u can always talk to them mean outside the room when ur done lol if u must.

If its obvious to everyone that the people are trying to get attention, its going to more than obvious to the adcoms. Be assertive but remember that no one - especially the adcoms like fake people asking a bunch of lame questions to kiss their asses. I just wouldn't worry about it.

It's funny... I was thinking about that troll post during the exercise. There was someone who seemed like he was going to be red and angry early on, but he wasn't. In fact, it was the opposite - the cute girl was the "villain" in this case.
