Hey folks....it's about that time again....to register for spring classes....figure out what to do during spring...etc....

If you are one of those who are planning to take the april test, what do u think the ideal class load would be to you?

1

14931

i usaully take 20 - 22 credits, but in the spring i am taking 15, 2 of them lecture only classes, then 2 lab thats 4 credits, then 3 credit chemical engr, then 3 credit microbiolgy 3 credit technical english

that doesnt include my research credit, and my independent classes, i will survive!

*sigh*

DrLady

I am taking 13 hrs, but then again, i am also graduating.

I am taking:

- Comparative Animal Physiology -5hrs
- English -Rhetoric - 3hrs
- Anthropology - 3hrs
- Independent Research - 2 hrs

So far, my most difficult class will be Physio.

You want to take less hrs, because it will be difficult juggling studying for both: classes and MCAT and as the test comes near, u will want to devote a lot of time.

Good Luck :)

Wow, you guys are lucky to have only 3 hrs of Orgo. Our organic I and II were 4 credit hrs each, so when I took orgo lab, i had full 5 hrs of orgo that semester!

Ouch...most of our courses are 3 credits max. I found out that the first biochem course is 4 credits though...that will be interesting! If your ochem courses were 4 credits each, how did the schedule look for the week?

It will probably be pretty tough from the sounds of it...but what I've learned is that it really depends on your professor

Yeah, it does look pretty busy. I'm taking organic II, macroeconomics, and introduction to research. Also, I'm taking a 1 credit bowling class that puts me up to full-time status but only meets half the semester....2 times a week.

For me :

Organic ChemII 3 credits
Physics II (w lab) 4 credits
BioChem (w lab) 4 credits
Genral Bio II (w lab) 4 credits

I may take OChem I over as well -depending on the grade I get. I may change my plans and take the Aug MCAT instead of the APR.

Do you guys think that 15 units (5 classes) is too many to take and study for the MCAT at the same time? I will be taking OChem 2, Physics 2, 2 classes for my major, and biochemistry. Is biochemistry helpful for the MCAT or should I focus my attention on taking another class for my major, which is not a science major.

I'd try to figure out when exams are for those classes you are registering for and see if they are in close contact with the day of the MCAT. There is nothing worse than have 3 or 4 exams the week before the MCAT.

I think that semester that I took the MCAT (April, 2002 test) i took:

Evolution 4cr.
Evolution Discussion (waste of Time!!)
Human Pharmacology 3 cr.
Calculus 4cr.
Upper level Psych 3cr.
Pharmacology research inrternship 3cr.. but LOTS of TIME spent
EMT Basic 7 cr.
work

I took the Kaplan class just to make sure hat I would at least study on the weekends, and it really paid off for me. I guess it was worth it, although it was such a hard semester for me. I was spread way too thin. But It CAN be done:)

I think that might be too much of a load considering orgo2 is lot of work, and so is the lab, and cell bio is difficult as well. Either take orgo 2 and cell bio or orgo 2 and orgo lab and then if u want to take ecology go for it. Also, I definitely recommend Gen. Lab. I think that genetics lab helped me quite a lot as I am in a research lab and I will be performing PCR experiments and what I learned in gen. lab helped me a lot in understanding my research. I took Eco lab to fill up my hrs in my bio major and I thought was the worst lab I ever took in my life. I took it in the fall and it was just a waste of my time and tedious work.

Despite stepping down from all my major positions at skool (Organic Lab TA, Natural Sciences Student Rep., president/cofounder of the best club *ever*), I will continue to be overwhelmed (and undersexed!) but still smiling ear-to-ear throughout this imminent helluva semester:

Biochem 2
Inorganic Lab
Major Artists of the Baroque
Northern Italian Renaissance Art
Health Psychology (1/2 semester)
Thesis Tutorial
Structure Elucidation Independent Study Project
(oh and a free PR MCAT course, yay!)

we do not have credit hours (nor grades, for that matter) so i cannot compute.

It depends on your professors but I think that would be a tough schedule. At my school Genetics, Cell Bio, and Physics are all rough classes. I had Genetics, Physics 2, Comp. Animal Physiology, Independent Research, and a Medicinal Plant class this past semester and it was by far the hardest semester I had ever had, mainly because of the massive amount of problem sets in Physics and Genetics, and the fact that all the exams were always in the same week. I was studying constantly when I wasn't working or volunteering. I would not have had any significant time for MCAT prep.

I am taking it easy this spring and after this past semester I am so glad I am finishing up and have the luxury to do so.
Evolutionary Biology + Lab (4 credits)
Chemical Safety (1 credit)
400 Level English Lit Class (3 credits)
Elementary Stats (3 credits)

I'm taking TPR class and am going to supplement with EK books too.
