I am confused as to how someone already has a Stanford interview invite. I read that they do not give out interview invites until November and don't start interviewing until December (I think I actually read this in the application instructions, but I can't remeber for sure where exactly I found this informaton). Was this invite a special offer? Has anyone else gotten one?

I was just reading the Stanford website...It says that the interview season is from November through February, for MSTP, at least. And generally, MSTP starts interviewing later than straight MD, so I would think that the MD program must start interviewing in November at the latest. In fact, by definition they are, because the MSTP folks have to go through some sort of interview evaluation for acceptance to the MD program before MSTP is allowed to accept them.

Thus, it makes sense that people are getting interview invites now. And even if they didn't start interviewing until December, what would stop Stanford from starting to invite people in October for interviews in December? In fact, I think a lot of people would appreciate it--it would give those of us not nearby a chance to find a cheaper airfare.

for the MD program, they just sent an e-mail saying that you've been selected for an interview and their season begins in december and they'll contact you in late october to fix the date.

I would love to interview at Stanford, so like everyone else I'm anxiously awaiting an invite. Looking at it another way, has anyone received a post-secondary, pre-interview rejection from them already? Although unfortunate for those having received a rejection, such news might buoy hope for the rest of us.

If you check out the wall of shame, you'll see that they have already started to reject people (sorry to those who have received the rejection).

On another front, does anyone know if they inform people of interview invites via email or snail mail (I know that the rejection comes in the form of a letter)?

There was an email stating that you "will receive an invite" later in October - which I assume will come via snail. So... kinda both, email first.
