I was just wondering what statistics it is that med schools advise taking? There is intro to statistics at my school, but its offered by the economics department. The other statistics class is statistics and probability which has a prerequisite of calculus. Any suggestions?

I've never heard a med school advise taking statistics. However having a basic course under your belt would certainly be helpful in a variety of clinical research settings.

I'm not exactly sure if many medical schools if any require statistics but at my undergrad, they require a statistics course for me to complete my Biology major. There is a statistics with a biology emphasis and there is the regular statistics. They are both essentially introductory courses, so they are pretty easy. But you should check specifically with what schools you plan on applying to jsut to confirm.

Go for the prob and stats course. E-stats will be more geared to economic problems and you'll get less of a broad base you can apply to medicine. Prob and stats usually doesn't have much calculus and can be pretty fun. How can you not love a class that teaches you how much to bet in Texas Hold'Em?

It's not that they require it, but rather they recommend it. Very similarly to how schools recommend biochem but dont require it.

I took Econ Stats at my school. Worked for me I guess.

I believe that UCLA requires statistics.

Does the psych department at your school offer stats? If so, that might be the one to take. It should emphasize doing stats for research, which is what you want.

Like someone else said, a number of schools recommend taking one stats class. In November, we had a 2 week "biostats and epidemiology" class, and my previous knowledge of stats gave me 2 weeks to catch up on sleep from anatomy and histo.
