Does anyone have any reliable information on what it takes to get into Hopkins IM residency?

* USMLE scores?
* Is AOA mandatory?
* Is research required?

Anyone have any stats from previous residents et cetera?

I'm a med student in allopathic school and my fiance and I for family reasons will likely try and do a residency in Baltimore/Washington area.

Other recommendations on good IM programs in that area?

A friend of mine who is not AOA but does have honors in medicine (another important factor at the elite IM programs) got an interview at Hopkins this year, so I'd say AOA is not mandatory. This person did have significant research experience, though no publications yet.

As far as other programs in the area, I have heard pretty good things about the University of Maryland program. The Washington programs don't have the greatest reputations from what I've heard...others may have better info for you about this issue since I'm not really looking in the area.

If you browse the "interviews offered" thread at the top of this forum you can get a sense of the stats required to get an interview at Hopkins, which are probably not far off from what it takes to get a spot in the program.

Hope that helps.
