Step Scores and Licensure

I just received my Step 3 score, and while I did pass it was by the skin of my teeth. On the bottom of my step score I noticed the disclaimer that states may have their own score requirement for licensure. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this actually practiced by various states? Thanks in advance.
