stethoscope and aneroid sphygmomanometer

My pharmacy school requires a stethoscope and aneroid sphygmomanometer for fall and gives a choice of brands for both. I do not know much about either.

Stethoscopes:
Littman Classic II SE
Littman Lightweight II SE
Sprague 122

Aneroid sphygmomanometers:
Model 882 with Lifetime Calibration Warranty
Model 79 with 10 year calibration warranty

Can anyone help me choose between the different brands? Thanks

If all you are planning on doing is taking BP then you could get a tin cup and some string instead of a stethoscope. 🙂

That being said, the Littman is widely used in the medical field. As a medical student, all my friends and I have the Littman Cardiology III. That said, there really isn't a need to spend that much money. My ex-GF is in Rx school and she has the Classic II..

As for a BP cuff, I'd get whatever is cheap. You'll most likely only use it for a handful of times in school. When in the hospital on rotations they will always be handy. You really just need one of your own to practice around the house with or whatever.

I just bought a set a few weeks ago. I picked up a Littman Select because I've heard bad things about the lightweights. I can hear things just fine with the select, but the ear pieces feel like they are trying to poke me in the brain. It's hard to adjust the tension (bend it), and as much as I pull on it, it's only "comfortable" for about 30 seconds at a time. I wouldn't get the select if you're going to be at a health fair, taking BPs for hours.
