Is anyone else waiting and waiting and waiting for Pitt to finally send out their acceptance letters in March?! I am getting very impatient! Does anybody know how many acceptances they will give out that 1st week of March? Well, look at the bright side.... I will probably get a letter saying I am waitlisted, and then the waiting continues until May!😛

I hear ya. I don't know how many they'll send out, but I'm really excited to find out. There's a great chance I'll go there if I get in.

You guys know if they are still sending interview invites? I was hopefull to get one, but no word yet. 🙁 G/L to you.

Dr. Bod., I'm pretty sure they're still sending them out. I've heard of people interviewing in late march there, even after the first round of acceptances.

I'm with you all.... getting very impatient! I LOVED Pitt, and I think that it would be my #1 or #2 choice if it wasn't so far away.... 🙁....

were any of ya'll that have posted thus far (or anyone else interested in pitt i guess) among those invited to interview BEFORE your secondary app was complete? anyone have any idea if these people get accepted at especially high rates?

also, does anyone remember what percentage of the class are PA residents?

last, anyone else surprised to see that they accepted just under 50% of interviewees? i'm really surprised they get that many people declining their acceptances... it seemed like a great program... just bloody expensive.

Good to hear that you all are interested in Pitt Med.

Acceptances are usually sent out at the end of February. The student interviewer who interviewed you will get the result if you got in, so some may send you an email with the good news even before the official letter arrives.

I'm not sure if the applicants who get interview offers before their applications are complete get in on a higher rate, but that makes sense since they are usually "stronger" applicants.

As for the class make-up, about a third of our first year class is classified as "Pennsylvania residents." The next biggest group is from California with about 15 or so students.

Concerning the yield rate, our class was an anormaly, needing about twice the number of acceptance offers to close out the class. I'm not sure why that was the case, but maybe it had to do with the location. Pittsburgh is usually not consider one of the "hot" spots for young professions, even though it is nice because it's more of a cosmopolitan city with a small-town-feel to it. Regardless, if you pick a medical school, you should pick one that feels right to you and that has the opportunities you want, especially if it is medically-related. You can always move to your dream location for residency.

Hope that helps clear up any questions or concerns.

the admissions office at pitt claims that they accept about 30-40% of interviewees, and the matriculation is about 1 in 2.5 admits.

that's what's published in all the crap they give us anyway.

the class is about 40-50% PA residents

btw- it may interest you guys to know that they give us from april 2-july 12 (over 14 weeks!) off to study for and take our boards. that's longer than any other med school gives its students. most take it in 8-10 and then have a mini summer break before 3rd year.

has anyone checked the pitt status page lately? i just looked at mine and saw that it was last updated on 1/22/04. anyone have any idea what that means? perhaps that the committee reviewed my file and made a decision? i realize they won't tell me for another month or so, but i'm just curious. if anyone knows what this might mean, by all means share.

My page also says that it was updated on 1/22/2004.
No idea what it means.

I'm from Pennsylvania and thought Pitt was a state school. recently some people who have interviewed there (Pitt hasn't invited me to interview yet 🙁 it seems odd considering the other interviews I've gotten) that Pitt is not a state school?

anyone know what the real deal is?

the status pages are updated every thursday, so next week it will say it was last updated on 1/29. i don't think it has anything to do with looking at your file or not.

From what I understand, Pitt is a private school, although Penn residents receive a slight tuition break.

Hey all!
I am crazy excited about Pitt . . I guess only a month and change left to decisions! I also got one of those early interviews so I hope it turns out 😀 Good luck to everybody else too. Pitt is for sure my first choice . . Who else will be definitely packing their bags for the Steel City if they get in?

I too am waiting to hear back from Pitt for an interview. I was complete in October....grrr

does anyone know if the Pitt status page will show what their decision was once it has been made (like the UMich page) but before the letter may reach us via snail mail?

also, UPitt class of 2007 - if you remember, is it that the letters are mailed first week of march or is that when they're sent?

A lot of people will hear from their interviewer via email prior to getting the actual snail mail acceptance letter. If you don't hear from your interviewer, it does not mean that you weren't accepted - we are asked by admissions to email, but some people end up busy or forget, or whatever. I heard from my interviewer about 3 days before I got the letter. (but I am 2006)
[Don't, however, email your interviewer asking if you were accepted - this could put them in an awkward position]
Anyway, in answer to your question - I think I remember that they actually mailed the decision a day or two before they said they would. I heard before I expected to.
