I am looking into getting student loans and don't know where to start. I"m starting a Masters in Counseling program, and will need to live on the loans for the first semester because my course load will be very heavy. Does anyone have any tips on reputable loans that don't get sold and transferred but that allow you to pay them back sooner than agreed upon if you wish? Any words of advice?

I'd fill out a FAFSA to see what school package you might be eligible for before you go into the private sector. It's probably too late for much...but you never know. You could be eligible for special school grants (diversity, merit, etc administered solely through finaid) or Perkins loans.

I can't help you otherwise b/c I haven't had a private loan.

Good luck.
