hi everyone, there are some sdn members raising ques about where the studt members will study from for the discussion. i suggest, that each one sudies from where they feel like and then discuss dificulties and/or add feedback to the ongoing discussion. this way we all can come to know of different things from different sources rather han jus one source. hope everyone is fine with this

In a class II amalgam there is a overhang at the gingival margin. This might have been cause by which of the following:
a) poor adaptation of the matrix band
b) poor carving
c) did not wedge the matrix band

I think all 3 are right, what do you guys think?

hey guys ,
next discussion session is on mon at 8pm pacific time
we'll be discussing prostho .
thanks,

The answer is ....failure to wedge the matrix band.
Do correct me if i'm wrong.

😕 😕 I have some queries regarding the occlusion, please solve this. It is written in part-II decks of prosthdontics.

There are interference in the occlusion
1. Balancing side (non-working) side interference generally occurs on inner aspect of facial cusps of mandibular molars.

So selective grinding in balancing side relation :
Grind the inner inclines of mandibular buccal cusps.

I agree with above mechanism,
But doubt with lower two mechanisms.

2. working side interferences generally occur on inner aspect of lingual cusp of maxillary molars ( supporting cusp) ( ?)

But selective grinding in working side relation: ( Nonsupporting cusps)
Grind buccal cusp inner inclines of upper teeth
Lingual cusp inner inclines of lower teeth

3. Protrusive interferences generally occur between
Distal inclines of facial cusps of maxillary protrusive teeth &
Mesial inclines of the facial cusps of mandibular posterior teeth.

So why this : a centric interference (forward slide) can be corrected by grinding
mesial inclines of maxillary teeth and
Distal inclines of mandibular teeth.

Please solve this problem, need really help, thanks in advance. 😕

protrusive interferences means interferences when you make propulsion (and it is correct ) You want to do propulsion ,you make it ,but only one or two teeth have contact.
second ,you close in CR ,and md makes a little propulsion because you have interference between mesial inclines mx teeth and distal inclines md teeth . In this case ,you don`t want make propulsion ,propulsion is the result .(and it is correct too)

Thanks adinaav,
Now I clear the doubt of third mechanism,

I think, a centric interference (forward slide) means it is a retrusive movement of mandible in centric relation and got the interferences in mesial inclines of maxillary teeth and Distal inclines of mandibular teeth. So it is totally different from protrusive interferencs.

and for the 2nd mechanism, i thinks there is error in printing of decks, it should be : working side interferences generally occur on outer aspect of lingual cusp of maxillary molars not the inner aspect ( supporting cusp)
and so grinding of nonsupporting cusps is correct.

thanks again.

Hi Emrald

i sure wud like to be in a study grp for part 2.........but i'm just starting with my prep, am actually taking acfd in May.

There are 3 type of occlusion

1. Bilateral balanced occlusion dictates that a maximum no. of teeth should contact during mandibular excursive movements.
2. Mutually protected occlusion or “canine guided” or organic occlusion is the one in which ant. Teeth protect post. Teeth in all mandibular excursions.
3. Unilateral balanced occlusion or “group function” calls for all teeth on the working side to be in contact during a lateral excursion..

First one is ideal one is very difficult to achieve, so My question is should we have normally no.1 (bilateral balanced occlusion) or no.1 & 2.( bilateral and canine guided – both).
Please guide me.

bilateral balanced occlusion is for complete denture (when the pacient doesn`t have any teeth) You must be sure that the denture rest in place when he make lateral movement.
canin guided or group function are in the normal dentition (when you have your own teeth) . Natural teeth never are in balanced occlusion
Ideal is canin guided ,but you can not achive this very easy with bridge ,and sometime it is usefull to make group function .( Imagine a bridge canin -second molar . You have more chance for stability in lat movement in a group function

Thanks adinavv, good explanation, you have really clear prosthodontics concepts. Sometimes it is necessary to refer books rather than only reading decks, that I don't have now, I appreciate all the sdn members who are helping and solving the problems. thanks all.

I prepare phrostetics now ,too . I am not sure that I was very clear ,because I don`t speak very well English . Look at the site for prosthetics ,someone give today the address (it is very usefull)

I would like to start my preparation for part II,but have no clue what materials to refer to.I just have dental decks .ARE decks and papers sufficient?

Can Please anyone help me to find part 2 question papers. I have posted in other thread also but no luck 🙁
