Hi, I'm a med student from Argentina and I'd like to enter a residency in the U.S. in 2004. I plan to take Step 2 in March, Step 1 in June and CSA in August, do you think i'll be able to do it or do you think I don't have enough time??? I'm already studying for Step 2, so I don't waste my time.

Thanks
N.

After I decided that I wanted to come to the U.S., I took TOEFL in summer, Step 1 in the beginning of September, Step 2 in mid-December, and I'm scheduled for CSA at the end of January. I'll be going through the Match in 2003.

Whether this is enough time or not really depends how focused your studying is and whether you can devote yourself to it full-time or have to split your time with clinical rotations or other exams. Sounds like you're right on track, though.

Two things I noticed when I reread your schedule.

1) I don't know when you want to pass TOEFL (or if you already have), but you have to have a certified TOEFL score before you may schedule the CSA.

2) You also have to have passed Step 2 before signing up for CSA. It takes about 1 month to get your results after you take the test. Only then may you APPLY for CSA. It takes about 2 weeks for ECFMG to do all the paperwork (i.e. certifying stuff with your med school, etc. ). Only after you are certified may you schedule the exam, and then it pretty much depends what dates are available (I pretty much got the last CSA date for this year's match and I scheduled it sometime in October). Therefore, August may be ambitious. However, you should still be able to participate in the 2004 Match if you pass everything.
