One of the Canadian schools I applied to just rejected one of my friends because he did not make the GPA cut off. What is this cutoff, you ask? 3.86!!! (that translate to about 3.88 - 3.9 on the AMCAS scale). This guy has a 3.83 and I have even less, so I guess my rejection letter is in the mail. They won't even look at your application if you're below the cutoff. And Canada is wondering why there's a sever shortage of doctors 🙄

Sorry, I just had to vent.

that's a ridiculous cut-off. I'm sorry for your friend!

warpath,

What school was it? 3.86 is really high. I'm still waiting to hear from all the Ontario schools except Queens.

Canada is like that...

However, Canadian schools don't look as stringently with respects to MCAT scores.

Bottom line: This whole process is difficult!

That's ridiculous! Why would they do that? It seems that they'll have to sacrifice too much in terms of extracurrics and personality to fill their class up. I don't know that many people with 4.0 GPAs.

Well, I haven't heard anything yet either, despite a 3.99 GPA and solid (at least I thought so) extra-currics. Hopefully we'll all hear good news in the next few days!

Sorry, I just had to vent.•••••Ouch... sorry to hear. Did he e-mail the admissions office to find out the cutoff was 3.86, or did the rejection letter indicate it? There are a few people on some of the Canadian message boards with less than that (e.g. 3.68) who have gotten interviews. But then, maybe they live in an underserved area or something.

Moo, you're referring to UBC right? What do they require on the MCAT?

There was a guy from Trenton with a 3.68, a billingual Mac student from southwestern Ontario with a 3.65, and a couple of other people with
less than 3.86 who got interviews. People in underserved areas (as designated by Ottawa) are considered second priority, behind Francophones and Aboriginals but ahead of people from the Ottawa region... so I guess the GPA requirements for these people would be lower.
