So...to get a subsidized versus unsubsidized Stafford loan, you must be in financial need according to the Upstate website...Exactly what do they mean be "need". If someone doesn't have any existing debt, but nothing to their name, does this still qualifty as "need"? Do schools analyze one's paren'ts funds do decide if the student is "needy"?

Assuming that you aren't applying for undergraduate loans, your parents' income/assets will not be a factor -- only your own (and/or spouse's). Your "need" is based on your income prior to the year that you're applying for the loans.

Do both the subsidized as well as the unsubsidized stafford loans take your credit history into account?

Because I have no bad credit, but barely ANY established credit at all. Not very likely for me to get a co-signer as well.
