I was talking with a practicing (20 years) OB today. He was talking about the increased subspecialization withint the field. He mentioned that he feels his surgical skills are suffering as a result of decreased surgical procedures available (e.g. the urogyn does the ant/post repair, the gynonc does all adnexal masses, etc). He mentioned that he feels that very soon general OB/GYN's will not do procedures except deliveries (which as mentioned before can often be handled by midwives) and general office procedures.
Any comments? I'm not looking for "midwives can't do all deliveries, etc, etc. Just the thoughts on decrease in surgerical procedures. Thanks!
