Depends on the school. Here at Hershey, the students get 4 weeks of Gen Surg and 4 weeks, divided into 2, 2 week rotations, of surgical subs. My school was similarly divided but into 6 and 6 (3/3) week blocks.

We did 6 weeks of surgery and 2 weeks each of ortho, ENT, urology, ophtho, anesthesia, and derm. Within your 6 weeks of surgery, you could be assigned to the vascular or peds teams especially if requested.

We did 4 wks of either gen surg/trauma/peds surg and then 2 wks x 2 of sub spec, you could pick which ones.

2 blocks of 4 weeks each of general surgery (VA, 4 general services, or trauma), 1 of which included 1 week of anesthesia

plus

1 block of 4 weeks with 1 week each on ENT, urology, ortho, and ophthalmology
