Success and Encouragement

I'm interested to read some success stories of those who didn't necessarily fit the cookie cutter idea of a future med student/Doctor. Maybe you came from unfortunate circumstances, started later in life, had a rough academic year, screwed up undergrad, never thought you'd see an acceptance letter, etc. I just think for myself and others, it would be nice to know of others that despite greater opposition, were able to overcome and succeed despite hardships and life in general.
