i'm just wondering what you guys have to suggest about ways to spend the summer after m1 year. i've heard a variety of things, from doing research if you want a high-power residency to just spending time doing whatever you want, like traveling. personally, i would love to take 4 weeks and just go to europe, but i don't want to miss out on an important opportunity to do something that might be a resume-booster. what have you guys thought about doing? m3's and m4's, any suggestions?

Hmmm...might it be possible to do both research and have vacation time? I know that there are some places/programmes where you can spend part of your time doing research and have a bit of time available for holidays [though I don't know how long your break is]

Unless you know you're going to apply to ultra-competative residency, take the time off and relax. You'll be glad you did about 2 months into Year 2.
