Since my last thread, I've opted to look for unpaid internship opportunities and have gotten some email responses from spay & neuter clinics/shelters in my area that are willing to take on a veterinary student for the summer, and some of them are willing to take on a student full-time (40 hrs/week).
Since I wouldn't be working, I'm worried about paying rent, car payments, insurance, etc, so I'm wondering whether private loans are a good option or if anyone knows of grants/scholarships for students looking to train under the guidance of a veterinarian at a shelter?
My other option is trying to intern part-time and work part-time, but I'll still probably fall short of covering my expenses unless I can find a way to work 30+ hrs while trying to intern on the side.
Any thoughts from vet students/graduates who found a way to make this work?
